December 18, 2025: The editing of the second part of the Tō’on-ryū article has now been completed. As with the first part, this article also focuses primarily on Kyoda Jūhatsu. It is scheduled to be published in the February issue of Gekkan Hiden.
In addition, I have completed the editing of a most interesting interview. This interview will also be published in Gekkan Hiden at a later date, and an English version will be made available on the BudoJapan website.
Overall, this represents a very positive beginning to the year 2026.
December 4, 2025: My new article will be published on December 14, 2025, in the magazine Gekkan Hiden and is titled “Yannick Schultze’s ‘Exploring the History of Okinawan Karate!’ – An Overview of the History of Tōon-ryū Karatedō (Part 1).”
November 20, 2025: The next Japanese article in the Gekkan Hiden magazine is scheduled for December 14, 2025.
November 11, 2025: I’ll soon be bringing my first article back from obscurity and publishing it on my blog – naturally with a few additional photos I’ve taken in the meantime.
October 31, 2025: The translation of the Koyama book is making good progress. The Tō’on-ryū article will take a little longer — it is currently still being expanded. The interview with Higa Kiyohiko was published recently.
July 15, 2025: We are currently in the final phase of the Tō’on-ryū article (Part 1), and the interview with Higa Kiyohiko also came in for proofreading today.
April 30, 2025: Our next article in Gekkan Hiden will be our interview with Koyama Masashi Sensei. The proofreading for it will begin in a few days… I’m really looking forward to it.
March 26, 2025: My next article about the 48th Nihon Kobudō Enbu Taikai will be published next month in the May issue of Gekkan Hiden.
March 23, 2025: I will be on my second Podcast – thanks again Michael Calandra sensei.

September 23, 2024: Our next article for Gekkan Hiden is scheduled for October 14th. The article will not only be published in Japanese in the print edition, but also in two European languages on budojapan.com In my personal opinion, it is the best article we have written so far. And I’m excited to reveal the topic very soon.
September 13, 2024: Editing for the 4th article for Gekkan Hiden has begun. In my personal opinion, it is my best article so far. The topic will be announced soon
September 2, 2024: I work on my book about the history of Jūdō in Germany for 3-4 hours every day… Once the book is finished, the Tō’on-ryū article will finally be completed.
August 24, 2024: I’m currently working intensively on the second volume about Jiu-Jitsu/Jūdō in Germany. I hope to finish the book next month.
August 9, 2024: My new article (in Japanese) will be published next week in the „Gekkan Hiden“ magazine. It covers my historical research on the origins of the Jion kata.
August 7, 2024: I am currently working intensively on our fifth article, which will be published in both Japanese and English. The English version will be published on the budojapan.com website. After that, we will work intensively on the Tô’on-ryû article. However, the four article had to be published first so that the Tô’on-ryû article would be more understandable in certain aspects.
July 19, 2024: A short update: my third Japanese article will be out on August 14, in which I will introduce my historic overview of the Kata ‘Jion’. Additionally, the first part of the interview series will be out soon as well. My wife and I interviewed Shimabukuro Zenpo sensei.
